Swimming & Lifesaving

  • The four main styles of swimming are: front crawl, breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle. In freestyle, swimmers can use whatever stroke they choose
  • Most local swimming pools and leisure centres have swimming and lifesaving clubs that you can join
  • Lifesaving is a recognised qualification, so make sure the person training you is a qualified instructor
  • The Welsh Assembly Government provides free swimming for children and young people aged 16 and under across Wales, during all school holidays.

Synchronised Swimming

  • Between two and eight swimmers make up a synchronised swimming team, perform a ballet-style dance routine to music and are judged according to their synchronisation, moves and routine

Diving

  • Many swimming pools and leisure centres also have diving clubs that you can join
  • As you become a more experienced diver, you can master skills such as somersaults and twists
