Darts

• Darts is a game in which small, narrow, pointed missiles are thrown at a circular target called a dartboard
• A dartboard has a specific design - it is divided into 20 sections worth one to 20 points. Each section is divided in to single, double and triple areas - the double and triple areas are thin parts of the section
• The player must stand behind a line when throwing the darts at the board
• Hitting the thin outer portion of each section scores double the points value of that section, hitting the thin inner portions of these sections scores triple the points value and hitting the larger parts of the section scores single the points value
• The central circle on a dartboard (the 'bullseye') is divided in to an outer ring and a red inner circle - the outer ring is worth 25 points and the red inner circle is worth 50 points
• Each darts player has three darts to throw at the board. The highest score possible with three darts is 180, which is scored when all three darts land in the triple 20 section
• Darts players compete by attempting to deduct points from a starting sum of either 301 or 501 for singles - the first player to reach zero wins
• If a player scores more than his remaining number of points, he has 'bust' and his score returns to the original number, which means he is likely to lose
• In Wales there is a men's and a women's national darts team
