Tranquilisers
Tranquillisers are available in a few different forms such as capsules, tablets, and injections.
They are prescription drugs used to treat depression, insomnia and anxiety. Other names that they are known as include downers, eggs, rugby balls and benzos.
The liquid from Temazepam can be extracted to inject and is used by some people as a substitute for heroin.
The effects of tranquillisers are to slow the body down, make the user feel relaxed and calm and large doses can send the user to sleep.
It is possible to get addicted to tranquillisers and Benzos are very addictive.
Included in the risks are:
- Some types of these drugs can cause short term memory loss
- Injecting the liquid from Temazepam can block veins and lead to limbs being cut off and there are serious dangers when injecting crushed tablets and gel capsules
- Withdrawal effects include pounding headache, confusion anxiety and sickness, if you are taking large amounts then panic attacks and fits can be caused when you stop taking tranquillisers
Tranquillisers are prescription drugs but are class C drugs for the misuse of drugs act. It is illegal to possess benzodiazephines without a prescription and unauthorised possession can mean up to 2 years in prison and an unlimited fine. Supplying tranquillisers can mean up to 14 years in prison and an unlimited fine.
