Gigs, Concerts, Events and Festivals
Concerts, events and festivals are a great way to surround yourself with something you love, and can feature live music, acting, comedy and the arts
Gigs and Concerts
A gig or a concert is where musicians play in front of an audience. One of the most famous concerts in the UK is the Proms at the Albert Hall in London. All kinds of music can be heard in concert at the hall, including:
- Classical
- Pop
- Rock
- Folk
- Jazz
- Musicals
- World
Events
An event is usually a show or gathering that celebrates something such as food, drink, culture, language and music - almost anything can be the focus of an event.
Events can last for either one day or several, although you tend to just visit it for one day.
Examples of annual events in Wales include:
- The Royal Welsh Agricultural Show
- National Eisteddfod of Wales
- Urdd National Eisteddfod
- Cardiff Wales LGBT Mardi Gras
The National Eisteddfod changes location each year and alternates between north and south Wales.
Festivals
Festivals are made up of a series of acts and performances, and because almost anything can be the subject of an event, there is sure to be a festival you will enjoy. They usually last for several days, meaning you can sometimes camp overnight.
Because festivals feature a range of performers, it can be a great way to see both your favourite performers and ones you may not have heard of yet. There are usually festivals catering for most interests.
Two of the most famous festivals in the UK are the Glastonbury music festival and the Edinburgh Fringe festival, although there are many much closer to home, including:
- Cardiff Summer Festival
- Hay Festival of Literature
- Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod
- Brecon Jazz Festival
