Gardening

  • Gardening and plants are a popular hobby for many young people, especially in the spring and summer when the weather is warmer
  • If you don't have a garden then you can still use your green fingers to grow indoor pots and plants
  • You can also try an allotment - this is a piece of land you can rent, usually from your local authority, and grow the plants, flowers and vegetables of your choice
  • Growing fruit and vegetables is becoming increasingly popular as the demand for organic food grows
  • Many young people learn about gardening from their family and friends but there are plenty of books and television programmes from which you can pick up the basic skills
  • Gardening is a popular community activity. Many young people give up their free time to help their local community by planting bulbs or weeding community areas such as parks and open spaces
