Food/Cookery

  • Experimenting and cooking your own food is a good way to try new flavours and combinations of foods
  • Cookery classes can teach you about different types of food such as Italian or Indian
  • Many people are taught to cook by other members of their family or friends - cooking is a good way of sharing knowledge and recipes
  • It is important that you eat a balanced diet and try to eat five portions of fruit and vegetables each day.
  • Different food groups give you a range of essential vitamins and minerals your body needs. Eating a balanced diet will ensure your body gets these vital nutrients to keep you healthy, feel fit and live longer

Safety in the kitchen

  • Knives used for cooking are often very sharp so be careful not to cut yourself
  • When cutting food, try and cut away from your body so that if the knife slips it doesn't cut you
  • Ovens and hobs can get very hot so make sure you wear oven gloves so you don't burn yourself
