Domestic Violence
Being the victim of domestic violence is a very frightening and isolating experience as it is often hidden from friends and other family members and it usually causes feelings of shame and guilt. Unfortunately it is now known to be more common than most people would expect.
Domestic violence is a violent relationship and can include verbal abuse, pressure tactics, disrespect, threats and physical and sexual violence. It involves men and women being violent towards each other and parent’s violence towards children
Getting help and support if you are a direct victim of domestic violence or it is happening in your home will be the best way to deal with this distressing crime. There are a number of support groups and agencies that you can contact who will offer advice, support and guidance to help you cope and contact the police when you are able to face the challenges that will entail.
If you are really concerned about immediate danger from domestic violence then call the police on 999.
Domestic violence has to be tackled as soon as possible to ensure that hopefully adults and children do not become permanently damaged by their experiences.
