M.E.

Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (M.E.) is a debilitating tiredness, affecting the nervous and immune systems. It is also known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS).

The most common symptoms are exhaustion, muscle pain, finding it difficult to concentrate and memory problems.

M.E. can affect people of all ages, but it’s more common in people aged between 20 and 45 and in women.

Although the causes of this condition are relatively unknown, M.E. can develop after a virus such as flu or glandular fever.

It is thought that M.E. can also be triggered by vaccinations or from toxins in our surroundings.

There is no treatment for M.E. although counselling has been proven to help some by reducing stress or changing behaviour.

Most people with M.E. find they need to obtain a healthy balance between activity and rest.

If you have any M.E. symptoms, please visit your doctor as soon as you can. Your doctor will advise you on the best ways to deal with this condition and ways to adapt your lifestyle to cope with M.E.
