Youth Work in Wales Excellence Awards
Wrexham Youth Service picked up two prestigious awards at the recent Youth Work in Wales Excellence Awards hosted by Huw Stephens BBC Radio 1 Dj at the SWALEC Stadium Cardiff. The awards acknowledge and celebrate a range of outstanding youth work projects available for young people across
Projects and staff are nominated for an award by a youth worker, young person, a work colleague or manager and they celebrate the excellent work being carried out throughout
Inspire is an innovative project utilising youth work support both within a hospital environment and within the community. The team work with young people with self harming behaviours including drug and alcohol misuse, those who are mismanaging medication and others who are in crisis. Inspire provides one to one support to young people, support young people in hospital, provide education sessions in secondary schools and Youth Clubs and deliver their own Youth Club. The team is a partnership project between Wrexham County Borough Council and Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board.
Lowri has advocated on behalf of young people who feel their voice is not being heard, making sure that their wishes and feelings are involved with decisions made about them. She has encouraged young people to find their voice and challenge decisions if need be, making sure young people are fully involved throughout. Lowri has advocated on behalf of several young people aged from 11 to 25 tirelessly over many years. The judges recognised her distinct ability to work with young people who are seen as having multiple complex needs and who often will not access mainstream services. Through her unwavering commitment, motivation and passion she is able to engage with these young people, gain their trust and develop positive relationships with them.
