Opening day of the football season
It was Saturday the 11th of August and I got up at 8am which was reasonable early for me. The reason I got up early is because I was volunteering in the local hospital at half 9 and did not want to be late. I had a really good time in the hospital because I was in a good mood as I was looking forward for the season to start. When I had finished the volunteering it was 11 30 so I looked for something to eat and found the nearest McDonalds. I finished my McDonalds and then did a bit of shopping around the town.
At about half 1 I knew that I had to start making my way to the ground because I was meeting my mate at the pub in the ground for a drink before the match. I enjoyed this because it was nice to see my mate before the match started to have a catch up. When we had our drink we went to our seats in the stadium when we got there I talked to the people who were around me and catching up with the rest of my friends. The atmosphere in the stadium was electric before the kick off because there was a lot of optimism (it was the first game of the season and i don’t think there will be as much optimism at the end of the season).
Then it was time for the players to enter the pitch and that just made the atmosphere even more electric. The atmosphere got even more electric because all of the fans wanted to try and get behind the players so they would hopefully play better.
It started very well for us because we were 1-0 after 16 minutes when Robert Ogleby performed an amazing volley lob over the goalkeeper. That was very good because the Wrexham fans got louder and the Woking fans fell silent because they knew that there team were not playing very well and were now losing.
It got even better for Wrexham just before half time when it became 2-0 after 41 minutes when Dean Keates slot the ball in the back of the net after it was skimmed across the box by Brett Oremerod . To be fair to the goalkeeper for Woking I don’t think he stood much of a chance with the second goal as the defenders did not help him at all. It got to half time and the talk of the fans were that we were happy with the way the team had played and that we were winning 2-0 made it better.
In the second half Woking did give us a bit of a scare because they managed to pull one goal back to make the score 2-1. The goal was not a really good goal and it was a pretty stupid goal to give away because they did not have to work hard to get the goal. It happened when there goalkeeper kicked the ball all the way to the striker and then our two defenders had a bit of miscommunication and in the end nobody got to the ball. This meant that the striker could just run through our defence and get the ball and kick it through the defenders legs.
This was bad for us because there fans got a bit louder because they believed that they could take a point from this match because they believed that they were back in the match. Following that our goalkeeper pulled off a remarkable safe to make sure that we were still ahead in the game and I was starting to get a bit worried.
We needed to get a third goal from somewhere but we were in luck because we had a corner and our defender Mark Creighton went up for the corner and found a way past the defence to score. Now we were 3-1 up I was a lot more secure and that is how the match ended I think that we deserved to win the match because we were clearly the better team.
