Volunteering

A lot of people are attracted to volunteering because it is a way of contributing something to the world and it’s also a great way of exploring different countries and cultures.

  • The opportunities available are as varied as you want them to be. You can work on a farm in Israel, go on an archaeological dig in France, take part in a ecological project in Australia, work with children with disabilities in Wales or help with disaster relief in the Philippines
  • Volunteering can often be a very rewarding way of seeing the world. If you stay in one place for a while, it will give you a chance to really get to know the community, begin to understand their culture and feel like you are making a difference
  • Volunteering is also a great way of getting to know people in your local area as well. You'd be amazed at what you can find right on your doorstep. You could help out with your local youth group, community garden or allotment, charity shop, community centre or local hospital
  • Volunteering doesn't always have to be done through an organisation, you could offer to help an elderly neighbour with their garden or at home
