Heritage

Heritage covers a broad range of things that define a particular country or area of the world.

  • Sometimes when people refer to heritage, they are also referring to your family history. You may have heard the term ‘hereditary’ meaning things that are passed down from an ancestor or relative
  • Heritage in relation to a country or area can include the culture, historical buildings, characteristics, language or even ideas or rights, such as freedom or equality of past times which are passed down through time
  • Heritage is an important part of a national identity and all countries are keen to preserve their own heritage, whether this is the Welsh language, or ancient monuments such as the pyramids in Egypt
  • Wales has a strong heritage of arts, music and poetry, dating back thousands of years. This heritage today is seen in the Eisteddfod celebration and festivals to raise awareness of Welsh Culture
