Spending Pocket Money

Your pocket money belongs to you, so it is up to you what you spend it on. Some people will spread their pocket money out over the week or the month, buying small things like sweets and magazines each day. Other people prefer to use their pocket money to buy something bigger all at once like a CD or some clothes.

However you decide to spend your money, you might want to think ahead first. Many young people are expected to use their pocket money to buy birthday or Christmas presents for friends and family, so you will want to make sure you have enough money when the time comes.

Your parents or carer might also expect you to pay for other things out of your own money, such as your mobile phone bills, top-up vouchers, cinema or concert tickets, so you need to budget your money to make sure you can afford them.

If you are not sure what is expected of you, sit down and talk to your parents or carer about what they want you to pay for and write up a list so you don't forget.

Your parents or carer give you pocket money because they trust you with your own money and think you can be responsible for your own finances, so make sure you show them you can be trusted and spend it wisely!
