Pet Insurance

The main reason to get pet insurance is to pay the vet’s bills if your pet gets sick or is injured (there is no NHS for pets).

If your pet is part of the family and you would do anything to get the money to pay for treatment, then you should consider pet insurance.

If you have enough disposable income or savings to be able to pay the vet yourself, then you might not need it.

  • Pet insurance covers your pet against risks including vet fees for illnesses and injuries that your pet may develop (although annual jabs and regular treatment may not be covered)
  • It may also cover legal liability (third party) if your pet injures someone or damages their property (your home contents insurance may cover this - it’s worth checking)
  • Some policies provide lifetime cover, which includes long-term conditions your pet may develop, such as eczema or arthritis
  • Each policy varies so make sure you shop around for the best deal to suit you

Make sure you fully understand what your policy covers.
