Adult and Community Education

Most towns have Community Education Centres which offer part time day and evening courses for adults. These are classes that are on offer throughout the day and evenings and on weekends.

  • Courses on offer vary, but include subjects like languages, art and craft, cookery, computer skills, landscape gardening, dance and martial arts as well
  • You might have to pay a small fee to attend these courses but some are offered for free and if you are on benefits you should be able to access a number of them without paying any charges at all
  • Community education can be a great way of getting out and meeting people in your local area and learning new skills at the same time
  • Some courses on offer will have the option of working towards a qualification which is a great way of increasing your skills and future prospects
  • Other options for adult learners include attending your local college or studying through distance or e-learning - have a look at our sections on these for more information
