With my picnic blanket packed
With my picnic blanket packed, something to chomp on and something to drink (this year saw a limit introduced on the amount of alcohol allowed onto the site) I walked the short distance to ‘Under the Arches’, arriving at the event in full flow at 8pm.
This year also saw a reduction in the amount of tickets available, and this resulted in a lot more space for families to gather on the playing field and make themselves comfortable for the night (well as comfortable as you can get in the great outdoors) This also meant that finally there were no queues for the toilets, which is very important when the event runs from 7pm to 11pm.
The firework display was, as always, spectacular. And this year were poignantly dedicated to two young men who have lost their lives in the area.
But for me, this event was the same as each and every year I have been, with the same bands and stalls. I had hoped that they would throw something new into the mix, to liven up the same routine sort of thing……. So I left slightly disappointed and vowed to save my money next year and enjoy the experience …………from my garden.
