I am a student at the Maelor School Penley where we have a strong link with a school in Lesotho called St Saviour’s. Through this link, students and teachers from both schools have been able make exchange visits for the past five years, allowing them to experience different and exciting cultures. This year, everyone at our school was extremely excited to hear that Wrexham had been chosen as the Pre Games Training Camp for the Lesotho Olympic Team.

The team arrived last week and have been busy preparing themselves to compete against the world’s greatest athletes. However the team took time out from their training to come and visit the Maelor School. They came and took part in an athletics festival run by the Wrexham Sports Development Team for all of the Maelor cluster schools. The Olympic Team were met with the school choir singing a traditional Basotho song and the Lesotho National Anthem.

The event was a brilliant opportunity for us to show our support for Lesotho in the Olympics. They know that they will not just have Lesotho cheering them on, but all of Wrexham too!
