  • Recycling is something everyone should try to do more of as it is an important way of conserving the planet and protecting the ozone layer

  • The best way to find out about recycling in your area is through your local council. They will be able to tell you what arrangements are in place in your local area for collecting recycling and where your nearest recycling centre is

  • Many of the bigger supermarkets have recycling banks in their car parks

  • Most packaging can be recycled, from cardboard boxes to glass bottles and polystyrene trays

  • You can also recycle your unwanted clothes by taking them to a charity shop so someone else can make use of them

  • Plastic carrier bags are one of the most common items of litter in Britain. It takes 450 years for this plastic to break down - that means not one of the plastic bags ever made have yet been degraded

  • You can help to recycle plastic bags by re-using them next time you visit the supermarket or by putting them in the recycling bank
